Conor inspecting bunches of Syrah. Notice the grapes have not changed color yet....
Looking up at the Manzanita block. Mostly Syrah, with some Marsanne and Roussanne also planted.

Syrah. Nice and Clean! Even berry size equals even ripening.
Overlooking one of the blocks where we get some Syrah.
Alder Springs Vineyard is located in northern Mendocino County, CA (for reference, it’s about 150 miles north of San Francisco and seven miles from the Pacific Ocean). We are so excited about this vineyard that we can barely contain ourselves! A recent trip out to Alder Springs by our winemaker Conor McCormack confirmed every positive thing we’d heard about the place.
Conor met with vineyard owner Stu Bewley, who has been growing some of California’s most outstanding wine grapes at Alder Springs since 1993. What Conor witnessed as he walked the property was what he called "a very special site, farmed with the utmost care and precision." Bewley practices a unique and patented brand of what some refer to as "extremist viticulture" along the steep sandstone slopes of the Coast Range, at elevations ranging from 1,700 to 2,700 feet. The unique growing conditions—bright sun, cool nights, phenomenal low-vigor soils—in combination with Bewley’s obsessive, hands-on attention to each individual vine yields small, complex, intensely flavorful berries. Bewley simply does everything extremely well.
This fall, our winemaking customers who choose to make Syrah from Alder Springs grapes will get to work with some of the most beautiful Syrah grapes we have ever seen, which will produce some truly elegant, lush, and delicious wine.
